It all adds up…

So tonight I finally got to take the StrengthsQuest assessment. Our staff has been trying to take it for several months now, and we finally got our funding straightened out and our access codes sent to us.

I was excited to take this personality assessment because I wanted to know exactly what I was best at. With the test, you get your top five results, and mine were as follows:

  • Developer
People who are especially talented in the Developer theme recognize and cultivate the potential in others. They spot the signs of each small improvement and derive satisfaction from these improvements.
  • Strategic
People who are especially talented in the Strategic theme create alternative ways to proceed. Faced with any given scenario, they can quickly spot the relevant patterns and issues.
  • Responsibility
People who are especially talented in the Responsibility theme take psychological ownership of what they say they will do. They are committed to stable values such as honesty and loyalty.
  • Empathy
People who are especially talented in the Empathy theme can sense the feelings of other people by imagining themselves in others’ lives or others’ situations.
  • Connectedness
People who are especially talented in the Connectedness theme have faith in the links between all things. They believe there are few coincidences and that almost every event has a reason.

I have to admit, these are some pretty accurate strengths. The only one I’m really not sure I agree with is “strategic,” but from the Web site’s description, I can see aspects of how that fits me. (There were longer, more detailed descriptions of each, but I didn’t feel like anyone but me would want to read those.)

What was even cooler was that I have recently been reading a book called Chazown, a book about finding your vision, passion or purpose. The book has guided exercises to help you find your vision, some of which include discovering your core values and spiritual gifts. The thing is, once I had compiled my values, gifts and strengths, I saw a lot of really meaningful overlap.

Because I’m a huge nerd, I made this little chart.

I was excited to see that my strengths and gifts really lined up with what I value. What a cool chance at introspection!

  1. I’m glad that you enjoyed taking StrengthsQuest and that they seem to fit you well. I’ve never hear of the book you’re reading but I might have to check it out. Have a great weekend!
